Detectives have arrested two suspects linked to the abduction and killing of a 9-year-old boy in Githunguri, Kiambu County, following a fast-paced investigation that led officers from Ruiru to the scene where the child’s body was later found hidden.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the suspects, identified as James Ngigi Ngendo and James Mburi Chichu, were picked up after officers tracked their movements across the two areas. The operation led detectives to a residence in Githunguri, where the victim’s body was discovered concealed.
Police confirmed that the two are in custody after being presented in court, where detectives obtained 10-day custodial orders to allow for further investigations.
According to investigators, the case began when the boy’s mother reported the incident after leaving him at home under the care of his grandmother and sister while she attended a family gathering in Kipipiri. Shortly after her departure, the grandmother received a phone call from a person later identified as Ngendo, who claimed he had taken the child and demanded a ransom of Sh150,000.
Detectives launched a search and traced the first suspect to the Gitothua area in Ruiru Sub-County. He then led officers to the second suspect in the Kigio area of Githunguri, where the second arrest was made.
With both suspects in custody, investigators intensified efforts to locate the missing child. Acting on information gathered during questioning, officers searched the house where the first suspect had been staying before the incident.
“The search resulted in the discovery of the body concealed in a manila bag, hidden under clothing materials on the rooftop,” investigators said.
Crime scene officers processed the area before the body was moved to Mukoe Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said it will continue pursuing all leads in the case and reaffirmed its resolve to ensure justice is served.
It stated that it “remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering justice for victims of heinous crimes, especially offences targeting children,” adding that investigations are ongoing.
